Some of you might be aware of the IIFA awards happening at Sheffield. Its great to witness such a great event. Although we couldnt go to the actual awards ceremony, we were nevertheless surrounded by ‘A five-day celebration of the world’s biggest film industry’…
The banner displaying Shahid and Kareena urged us to – “Enjoy an ‘Indian Summer’ with dancing in the streets, Asian music and food, Indian storytelling, exhibitions, yoga, film screenings, and lots more”
I had never imagined Sheffield (which is a pretty city in its own way), been taken up and painted in the colors of Bollywood! It was an amazing experience to hear to the beats of the ‘Dhol’ from the Bhangras.. and the clinking of ‘Paayal’ from the Bharatnatyam dances.
We were sitting in the Meadowhall Oasis (huge restaurant) having a Pizza and watching a dancer performing abosolutely graceful steps of Bharatnatyam dance.. This was followed (and we stopped short our steps) as we heard the famous ‘dola re dola’ music from Aishwaryas movie. A girl danced beautifully on this song and we appreciated her by clapping as loud as we could.
The scene at the City-centre was very lively as all the people were dancing on the Bhangra music.. You have to see it to believe it..
Curious as to what happened at the awards then??
Nearly all the celebrities were there – Big B, Abhishek Bacchan with wifey Ash, Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Shilpa Shetty, Bipasha and Boman Irani, Soha and Saif Ali Khan, Hritik,Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby Deol… and many more.. !!
The best actress was bagged by Rani, and the best film was (anyones guess!) ‘Rang De Basanti’ !!!
Read all about it on the following links.. : i have to get ready as today we might go to the waterfront to watch the final performances !
