Just returned back from our day trip to Derbyshire! A beautiful countryside and we were lucky that it didnt rain a bit today!
My managers, Tracey and Mandy had made a plan to take us out in the countryside to spend some time together apart from work. So we met Mandy who was up and early at office -morning 10 am. Tracey arrived soon afterwards with her husband driving and her cute 7 yr old daughter Lucy.
We immediately set off towards Derbyshire in order that we dont get caught up in the traffic later on. We were going to a place called ‘The Heights of Abraham’.
Funny name for a place you might think but the word ‘height’ might make you think its some place far up, which infact it is !
We were supposed to travel in a cable car to the place which has got a few mines which are now closed for business, but still open for tourists like us! Amongst the attractions in the park, which has been open since Victorian times, are cavern and mine tours. The cable car was opened in 1984 and was the first alpine cable car in Britain. The route is 568m long and climbs 169m.
The view from the cable car is fantastic! and this being a very clear and sunny day, we really could see a long way off!It did remind me of Raigad ropeway back at home!
Once we reached up there, it was time for some pictures and fun.. There was a mine tour which we intended to attend and we then travelled into a mine which was as old as London itself. Well.. they did tell us that whilst digging the mine London had burnt (in the great London fire) and had been rebuilt.
After a small excursion through the mine, we went to the cafe where Kanchan as usual, had some ice-cream and I (as usual again) had a small glass of Pedigree beer. They surely know how to make beer in England !! every beer (bitter as they call it here) which i have tasted is a classic!
After taking some rest, we came down to the car-park and stopped on our way back to have some food (Cajun chicken and veg Lasagne !) excellent food too..
I can never thank Tracey and Mandy enough, for this excellent trip out into the wonderful English countryside.
I have uploaded the pics at this link : http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/nikhil.thite
All and all, i can say it was a good day out and we enjoyed the much needed change!
We are going to rent a car and visit Wales next weekend! so watch this space for my next blog! !
