Finally reached Sheffield without much delays (thank God!). Was too much tired through the last week to write anything. Still i would say we are settling down to the English weather. ?.. Yes .. its raining as i write, and the temperature outside would be around 7-10 deg C !! chilly eh !?! Quite a change from Pune’s ‘hot’ weather. I can remember the day we left Pune , it was around 38 deg C.
Anyways, so here we are back in the town.I’m saying town, because Sheffield shouldnt be called a city. I’d say Pune is a city and Sheffield would be 1/4th of Pune.
The taxi driver also recognised me from last time, and i must admit he was a bit happy. He’d got an excellent Mercedes hutchback to pick us up and i had to compliment him on that!! Initiating a conversation.. is a problem i have never faced anywhere in UK. The most common and loved topic over here is the weather.. people here just love to crib about the weather ..on how good it is or how bad it has got (blame global warming). I was told that it had been very sunny and clear for the past few weeks but my manager blamed me for bringing in the showers ! haha..
We are staying in WestOne appartments.. very good place to stay as its in a very good locality and also pretty close to work. The flat looked good except that it didnt have a phone connection and it took me atleast a week to get it sorted out.
The first day at work was very exciting and i could tell(my manager infact did tell later) that everybody was really pleased to see me back! they promised me that this time they would show a bit more warm hospitality rather that the typical English one.
But to be honest.. i never felt that i had been away from here.. everything seemed same as it was when i had left.. there are a few new additions to the team.. but barring a few high-rise buildings that have come up around Sheffield, i cant say i can sense change the way i do it in Pune.
Kanchan’s been catching up on some sleep in the last week and getting the house all set up. maybe she’ll join some short-term course in foreign language or something. She did enjoy the dinner at ‘Mangala’ an Indian restaurant and meeting up with all my clients.
Planning to go for some outings with friends over here, waiting for the weather to open up. Maybe a trip to the land of the Scots.. but cant say sure till some time more..
The next week doesnt look too good too.. i got this from the bbc weather site which is fairly accurate. But it looks promising the next weekend and we might want to go to Chatsworth House to catch some sun..
I am generally on Skype and can talk to anyone thru that, as its cheaper than phone cards.. so if anyone wants to get in touch my id is nikhil.thite… and yes if anyones got any comments, please feel free to do so in the comments section below..
till next time..
